Purple Star School Information

Supporting Our Military Families

Kitty Ward Elementary values the many families that live in our community who have ties to the military. We are applying for a Purple Star to better support our families who currently or previously served. As a school, we understand that military children go through unique circumstances and situations, and we want every military family to know we are here to help. This webpage is designed to provide you with easy access to helpful resources. In addition, the staff at Kitty Ward has experience in assisting military children and their families, so please don’t hesitate to reach out for additional assistance.

FAMILIES CAN EXPECT

Transition Team

A dedicated team comprised of teachers, administrators, and a student ambassador will work to aid in the transition to Kitty Ward by introducing our new student and their family to the school community.

Registration and Enrollment Support

Tours of campus and early informational meetings can be conducted by a combination of virtual, telephonic, and in-person meetings to accommodate relocation challenges.

Recognition Events

The school hosts events throughout the school year recognizing military-connected students and their families.

INTERSTATE COMPACT

The State of Nevada is a member of the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3), which provides assistance in transitioning students and provides consistency for military affiliated students as they transfer between school districts and member states. For information regarding the MIC3 Family Guide for Families and Schools, click here.

For additional support, feel free to e-mail Mrs. Mariah Mears, our Assistant Principal and School Liaison Officer or Ms. Elisabeth Savran, our School Counselor and Purple Star Advocate. They play a vital role in assisting families as they navigate the complexities of transition and deployment as well as our Purple Star Implementation Team.
